This Friday we counted 11 of the staples we track on special at PAK’nSAVE and 12 at Woolworths — 23 in total across the two shelves. A "special" here is whatever the supermarket’s own catalogue flags as a marked-down price for the week. Woolworths carries the bigger list this Friday, which usually means a wider spread of categories on the discount shelf — proteins, dairy, the odd staple veg. We don’t add up the discounts into a single "save" number because that mixes baskets you’d never buy together. The honest read is the per-shelf count, and the count moves week to week.
How we measure this
Every Friday we read the public catalogues at both supermarkets and count the staples we watch that the supermarket has flagged as on special for the week. We report each shelf’s count on its own — no aggregation, no merged basket. A count is a count.
