The staples nobody is moving on.
Beef mince held flat at PAK'nSAVE for the 4th week running.
The cheapest valid pack of beef mince at PAK'nSAVE has now held within 1% of itself for 4 weeks in a row. This Friday’s price sits at $18.99. "Flat" here means the week-on-week move stayed inside the noise floor we set for staples — anything under 1% is normal price-feed jitter, not a real change. Long stable runs usually point to a contract-priced category (dairy is a regular) or a deeply commoditised staple where margin pressure keeps both shelves anchored. We track this for 5 weeks total; the comparison is short-range and will deepen across the year.
How we measure this
For every staple we watch, we compute the week-on-week percentage change in the cheapest valid pack at each supermarket, and count how many consecutive weeks the change has stayed within 1%. Four weeks or more counts as "held flat".
