Drop these straight into a piece.

Pre-formatted. Numbers refresh every Sunday morning.

Kepie Watch finds whole fresh NZ-grown pineapple at PAK'nSAVE works out to $0.44 per 100g of edible fruit — four cents more per 100g than imported tinned chunks at $0.40. The tinned option also keeps for a year unopened. The two products differ on origin (NZ vs imported), form (fresh whole vs tinned chunks), and shelf life — the per-100g comparison is on edible-flesh weight, not pack weight.

Of the butter products Kepie Watch measures at PAK’nSAVE and Woolworths, 17 of 18 (roughly 94%) carry the NZ-made marker on packaging. The exception is one imported European-style cultured butter. The flag is a packaging marker, not a country-of-origin audit.

Kepie Watch tracks the cheapest valid SKU each week for nine NZ-staple categories — bread, butter, cheddar, eggs, beef mince, chicken thigh, bananas, capsicums, and broccoli — at both PAK’nSAVE and Woolworths. Per-store price history charts are published on every staple page; the corpus runs about five weeks deep so far.

Methodology summary

The short version.

Prices captured weekly (Friday morning NZT) from the publicly accessible PAK’nSAVE and Woolworths websites. We publish the cheapest valid product per category at each supermarket. “Valid” means: in the set we measure, AI-classified as a real match for the category, and not on our exclusion list of known false matches. Twelve weeks of rolling price history per tracked staple. No estimates. No retailer input. No promotional inflation.
